Recently, legendary comic book artist and writer Jim Starlin attended this year’s DragonCon. Jim Starlin is one of the co-creators of the Thanos. Understandably, fan couldn’t help but ask Starlin who he thought should portray Thanos in the upcoming Avengers sequel.
“I had thought about Idris Elba, who is an English actor I always thought about. He is already appearing as Heimdall. There were rumors going around that Arnold Schwarzenegger was going to be tapped for it, which at first I thought was a bad idea but then I caught him in the news since his post-cancer treatment and he has Thanos’ voice. He has this real gravelly voice and he would probably work well. Couldn’t think of anybody else I’d throw out off the top of my head.”
What?!
I guess you really can’t look down on his choice because after all, he did create Thanos.
In the infamous End-Credits scene in The Avengers, Thanos was played by Damon Poiter. An actor who has appeared in numerous Joss Whedon shows like Dollhouse, Firefly and Angel. It is uncertain if he will return in The Avengers 2 to reprise the role.
As far as Arnold goes, I’m not entirely sure he can pull it off. He would have been perfect match “physically” back in his early bodybuilding days. Even now, I’m sure they could just CG his body the same way they did The Hulk for Mark Ruffalo but there’s not much they can do about that thick Austrian accent. I’m sure fans have not gotten of his portrayal of Mr. Freeze in Joel Schumacher’s Batman and Robin.
